Course Content & Learning Outcomes
- Legislation & Standards: LOLER, PUWER, HASAWA, BS7121.
- Roles: Responsibilities of Supervisors, Appointed Persons, operators, and riggers.
- Crane Appreciation: Types, capabilities, limitations, documentation, duty charts, SLIs, SWLs, safety devices.
- Lifting Plan Evaluation: Assessing lift plans, risk assessments, and method statements.
- Site Preparation: Planning exclusion zones, access/egress, identifying hazards (underground/proximity).
- Slinging: Techniques, load angles, down-rating accessories.
- Communication: Methods for safe signalling.
Course Structure
- Duration: Typically 3 days of training followed by a 1-day CPCS theory and practical test.
- Prerequisites: Must have passed the HS&E Test for Supervisors within the last 2 years.
- Outcome: Upon passing, candidates get a Red CPCS Trained Operator Card, valid for 2 years, requiring an NVQ for the Blue Competent Operator Card.
